Phnom Penh: Cambodia and the Czech Republic have pledged to strengthen their cooperation in the legislative and executive branches. This commitment was made official during a meeting between the President of the National Assembly of Cambodia and the Czech Republic's ambassador on December 20, 2023, at the National Assembly in Phnom Penh.

The President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Khuon Sodary, urged the Czech Republic's Ambassador to Cambodia, Martin Vávra, to bolster and broaden the cooperation between the National Assemblies of both countries. Additionally, she encouraged the Czech Republic to explore opportunities to increase trade volume and promote people-to-people relations.

President Sodary acknowledged the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and the Czech Republic, highlighting the Czech Republic's assistance to Cambodia dating back to the early 1980s. However, she emphasized that legislative cooperation between the two nations should be further developed.

She underscored that the strong bilateral relations would not only benefit Cambodia and the Czech Republic but would also contribute to global peace, social stability, and sustainable development.

President Sodary stressed the importance of upholding pluralism, especially in today's high-risk global context.

In response, Ambassador Martin Vávra expressed his support for President Sodary's statements and commended the National Assembly and the new Royal Government of Cambodia for their dynamic leadership. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia would achieve rapid development.

The Ambassador recalled the Czech Republic's past development assistance to Cambodia in various sectors, including education, health, and rural development, and affirmed the Czech Republic's continued support for Cambodia's development.

Martin Vávra pledged to work diligently during his diplomatic mission in Cambodia to promote more active and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations in both legislative and executive domains and to foster people-to-people connections for the mutual benefit of their citizens.

He also highlighted ongoing discussions with the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance regarding potential assistance to Cambodia's economic growth.
